ANNALAURA DI LUGGO
Annalaura di Luggo (1970) was born in Naples, where she lives and works as a multimedia artist, photographer, filmmaker, and director. Her works and installations blend technology with craftsmanship, inviting viewers to reflect on social and environmental issues. Throughout her career, she has explored themes such as human rights (Never Give Up at the Juvenile Prison of Nisida; Human Rights Vision for the Kennedy Foundation in New York), blindness (Blind Vision, presented at the United Nations and the Italian Consulate in New York), the animal world (Sea Visions / 7 Points of View), and nature and biodiversity (Genesis, created for the 58th International Venice Biennale). Her project Napoli Eden, which features four large-scale public installations made from recycled aluminum, sparks a dialogue on sustainability in Naples. It also inspired the docu-film Napoli Eden, directed by Bruno Colella, which qualified for consideration for the 2021 Oscars in the Best Documentary Category. Recycled aluminum and immersive storytelling are also central to her installation Collòculi > We Are Art, a monumental eye-shaped sculpture that projects multimedia content. This work debuted at the Bank of Naples Foundation and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN). The creative process of Collòculi is the focus of the documentary “We Are Art Through the Eyes of Annalaura,” directed by the artist herself, blending video art with experimental cinema. The documentary qualified for consideration for the 2023 Oscars in Best Documentary Feature and Best Original Song categories. Annalaura di Luggo’s bibliography is extensive, with contributions from the most influential art critics and international figures in the spheres of culture and entertainment, including Paco Barragán, Raisa Clavijo, Hap Erstein, Timothy Hardfield, Stephen Knudsen, Paul Laster, Ivan D’Alberto, Stefano Biolchini, Francesco Gallo, Irene Galuppo, Aldo Gerbino, Giulia Gueci, Marcello Palminteri, Demetrio Paparoni, Gabriele Perretta, Nicoletta Provenzano, Antonello Tolve, Vincenzo Trione and Andrea Viliani. Her works reside in public and private collections in Italy and abroad. Among her most recent personal exhibitions are: “Multum animo vidit” at the PAN-Palazzo delle Arti in Naples; “Oscurità e sommersione”, at the Complesso Monumentale dello Steri in Palermo; “Collòculi / Intro-Spectio”, The National Roman Museum-Baths of Diocletian; “Collòculi @Pompeii”, Archeological Park of Pompeii. Her work is represented by numerous galleries in Italy and abroad, including JUS Museum / Arti Contemporanee (Naples), which promotes her works in public and private exhibitions, as well as at leading art fairs. Her permanent installations (United Nations, New York; National Archeological Museum of Naples MANN; Bank of Napoli Foundation, Naples and Chieti; Genoa International Boat Show, Genoa; National Roman Museum-Baths of Diocletian, Rome; the Pantheon, Rome; Archeological Park of Pompeii, etc.) challenge perceptions of space and reality, offering viewers new ways to engage with the world around them. www.annalauradiluggo.com
