The book examines, from a legal point of view, some cases of pollution and environmental disaster, not omitting insights and openings of social and cultural interest. ‘A great French philosopher said that disaster is the only real resource of the South. Today we can see how it has become the only real resource of Italian society, which seems to have no other agenda for itself than to live on the edge of an abyss. We hear of new catastrophes, real or presumed, on which politics, finance and economics thrive. That is precisely the point: our lukewarmness, our indifference. Words have no meaning or sense, they are repeated without really understanding their gravity and importance, unless... it directly affects us or our family members. Let us ask ourselves how the ‘civilised’ world can tolerate this.’
